Can anybody put up a how to on this.
My 2.6 CDxi needs an extra bit of cooling. I would like to know how to wire this up please. I do not have aircon or autobox so there is no fitting for a temp sensor in the rad itself, only on the thermostat housing.

RS Components do a normally open 10 amp 'bolt on' type thermostat for a couple of pounds, it closes at 90 degrees centigrade and opens at 75; their stock number for this is 331 562.
Do a search on their website for a picture of this and you would see how it would have to be fixed
This should be adequate to run an auxiliary electric fan.
I am intrigued by your need for this since I have never known a car that needed one that did not have one fitted on manufacture ?
My 2.6 Diplomat has aircon which puts a dirty great radiator in front of the engine rad. and even on hot days with the aircon working, I have never heard the auxiliary fan come on or seen the engine overheat !
Are you sure that the fan viscostatic drive is working properly and the thermostat is OK ?

Think it's the visco fan buggered! One of the tests I have been meaning to carry out since last summer, but up here it has been that cold that it hasn't been a problem yet so it's been put on the back burner, again. I will do the carrot test once I get me garage back, still full of a Polo, but that should be gone by the end of the month, then I can crack on with all the little jobs that need doing (once the house stuff is finished)It never normally gets above 85 on the gauge, and before you ask, it's not that slow to get there so I reckon the stat is still good. I'm loathe to take it out to check it... those bloody bolts always snap!  |

Cheers Matt, I'll bear that in mind. Listen mate I'm away from the car for a wee while at the moment, can you have a look at the viscous and tell me if it's the nut job or the allen bolt that secures it. I have a spare visco but it's a nut job, came from a 1987 diesel.

Jon, carlton_mad told me of an auxiallary fan switch that fits into the top hose and you can set it to what temp you want the fan to cut in. Can't for the life of me remember the company that does these though. 'Fraid you'll have to ask Chris.

ahah!!!! i was going to start a wanted but dont need to now after reading this. i WAS going to ask if any one has a viscous fan for 24v carly going spare ? as i beleive mine is shot  |

It's an allen key on reverse thread, with a large 22mm or 24mm nut behind it. Five minute Job, i have a 'shortened' allen key specically for it. I have know working viscous off my car.
