been to check this car out today and made a cash offer. Roll Eyes
will know in a couple of days hopefully.
if it was manual i'd have offered more  Cheesy
needs complete to end rebuild though and a tidy up body wise lpg cert.
glad i saw it unwashed and original rather than tarted up to sell.
700 people have viewed it on ebay so far with 4 days left to auction end.
i think 690 won't want to recover/weld/rebuild it though  Tongue

Hello....

I'm thinking of joining the world of Carlton owners by buying this Carlton off E-bay.  Can anyone tell me if it is a fair price, and what problems I should be looking out for?  He reckons it is a good runner and that it all works (and admits to a little rust on the rear passenger wheel arch), but as the car isn't MOT'd (and he wont get one cos he doesn't have the time), I have my suspicions.  Can someone tell me the red flags that a muppet such as myself should be looking for in a car like this?  I have read through the guides on this site but am really looking for the best way to tell quickly if this is the car for me or not.  (I'm a mechanical novice looking for a reliable car that won't need anything other than a cheap MOT and service to give me plenty of trouble free miles, not asking a lot am I?  Roll Eyes )

is it not STRANGE to have a blue interior in a facelift model  Huh
low miles  Smiley
only way to know if it is worth buying is to have a look
but i think the start price seems too high for a car without MOT.
deing sold by a dealer(price board on screen £1295)
makes you wonder why they won't mot it  Huh
(besides the poor excuse of "cos he doesn't have the time")

needs a look really, low miles is good but no indication of rust.
Price with no MOT is too high
Bottom line if there are no issues he can pay £50 for MOT and add £200 to the value of the car......so why does he not do it?
My normal one is to ask for the reference number off the V5 so you can check previous advisories on MOT.
If he has put it in and its failed it will show this also, and if he is not willing to give the number.......walk away, there are plenty of good ones come up around 4-5 hundred with full MOT.

Also I would not buy anything off anyone who spells as badly as that guy LOL

Thanks for the advice.  Can you tell me what I need to do to check the MOT stuff once I have the V5 number?

Hello all

I'm afraid I won't be buying the Carlton off eBay and joining the ranks of Carlton owners.  Funnily enough I was prepared to pay him more than he wanted for the car, but only if he would MOT it, which he wouldn't.  His loss.

But thanks to everyone for being nice and helpful to a newbie!

won the rear lusters but the front h/lamp i was outbid .
may look at using a non pencil beam unit with the reflectors from the CDi unit

tint looks too dark for mot use  Undecided
so i'm still on the lookout for a facelift driver side cluster
