Hi everybody, I just bought a 2.6 motor and ar25 auto box from Whippit that I'm intending to use for a project. I can't tell you exactly what sort of project yet Grin, but it will definitely have less than 4 wheels!
Anyway, what I'm asking for help with is, what inputs does the ECU require to actually start and run the engine?
After doing a bit of research, I think I found out that the ECU runs in open loop mode (i.e. it runs off the base maps) from a cold start until it reaches a certain temp. and then switches into closed loop mode where it monitors lots of parameters and modifies the maps according to the inputs of all the sensors.
So, which inputs are needed for open loop control and will the motor run OK in open loop when it is warmed up?

A further question regarding the gearbox . I did not get an ECU with the box, well not yet, as Whippit has not managed to find it yet. So, will the box run without its ECU just like a conventional auto box?

If it turns out that things are getting too complicated for me, then I'm considering removing the whole EFI system and using 3 SU carbs or simmilar and fitting a conventional dizzy. For my purposes, the engine will be more than powerful enough, so a slight loss of performance is acceptable. It would also be beneficial if the induction equipment was removed to reduce the overall height of the engine.

Any help will be greatfully received and acknowleged.

Cheers, Big Mick.

It should run in open loop mode, just very rich, i think its the same as the limp home mode. I dont think the gearbox will run without it's ecu, but i may be wrong. Why not fit a manual? As for the intake. If you can do away with the trunking and stick the airbox on the passenger side where the battery would sit.

you could run the 3.0 12v ecu and plenum much simpler arrangement and gives a nicer induction roar (you will need a 3.0 dizzy)

Ta for the replies chaps. I'll give you a call Mr. Whippit.
Does anyone have a manual (Haynes etc.) that they don't want. Also I could do with an engine bay wiring loom, for all the connectors.

Cheers, Big Mick. Grin

Could you see if he has the wheel centre caps please Jim?

If he has I may have them if the price is good.

Thanks

If needed I have a manual box from a 2.6, it's missing the hydraulic parts but is in otherwise very good nick.
