Yeah, I've got a CD saloon that I've just had to weld a foot long plate to the front end of the drivers side sill & luckily the inner sill lip was all good, just like yours.

Then you want to do as I do & lever the plastic plug from the sill end inside the rear wheel arch & with the car on a slight slope, inject the whole thing with a diesel & clean engine oil mix that will penetrate & protect from further corrosion.

Remember, re-fit & seal round the plastic plug & DON'T do it on that nice block paving that's in your pictures - if you do, put some old carpet down & some little containers under the drain holes cos it makes a real mess otherwise Wink

Those sill covers look nice, but they are the cause of that rot & the cause of the previous repair to rot again due to trapping in wet road muck & salt etc. Angry

lol its too late to save the driveway, its already covered in oil from my previous projects Lips Sealed

good idea about the oil treatment, i did see that plastic plug and wondered if i could spray some waxoil in there Huh  Think my bodyshop friend likes to use the old engine oil trick so i could get him to pump some into the sills when theyve been repaired Smiley

One thing to watch out for is what I've seen happen when welding has been done on the back end of the sill.......& that is that the heat from the welding melts the plastic plug & it drops out, thus letting all the water & muck off the wheel arch go inside the sill & rot it out again.

I've got block paving & I try to keep mine clean if I can Grin Grin Grin

Well i got the carlton back from the bodyshop today, new arches fitted and sills repaired Smiley

To be honest im not entirely happy with it, arches are done good but the sills couldve been done a bit tidier at the ends, and my mate also forgot to replace the bit that runs along above the rear wheel to the rear bumper (its solid enough but was worth doing while the strips were off) Undecided but then maybe im a little too fussy Cheesy

Once the trims back on you cant see most of the welding anyway, just nice mint arches! Smiley

I have treated both sides to two coats of hammerite, undersealed all the joins and along the back of the arches (nice gooey stuff) and then sprayed the lot over in Waxoil before refitting the sill covers, hopefully it'll last another 15 odd years! Grin

Pics tomorrow after ive finished off the drivers side (cos its too dark now)

Well ive finally got some pics up, took them today at lunchtime because i was working late into the night finishing off the drivers side Tongue  Im glad i did finish because today as its been raining and it wouldve taken ages for the metal to dry for painting Lips Sealed

as you can see its a fine improvement over the rotten arches Smiley the brown stuff is not rust thats a combination of underseal and waxoil, i went to town with the waxoil Grin

all i need to do is stick the arch trims back on and maybe put some tape ove the arches where the door shuts, as the seals will rub away the paint eventually, i have greased them up for now.

Ive also delocked the passenger door Cool

Looks alot tidier and gets rid of the manky lock that was there Smiley (only have two keys instead of three now Cheesy) cheers to Flash for that Wink

good on yeh L.B . Great to know your hard work and determination is paying off . But respray your allys silver mate or get a set of dippy allys  . Black kind of deadens the result of the car mate , no offence ment . Wink

nothing dave  Cheesy . I never been a big fan of black alloys , I had 19"alloys on my cav and they were bronze and looked nice , but i changed them for a nice st of silver allys which made it look nicer . But this is no offence to LB`s  choice , i just thought it may look nicer with a change of rims on his land barge cruiser , especially if he lowered it 40mm  Wink Wink Wink

Thanks guys im real glad she passed Smiley a couple of weeks ago i was having doubts about what i had taken on but a bucket load of elbow grease has worked wonders Grin

Thats the hard bit over and done with, but theres still lots to do like replace the rear donuts, fit new discs and pads and give her a service which will keep me busy for a while Smiley

as for the wheels, im happy as they are for now, think they give it an agressive look Cool

Will get some updated pics up this weekend, after a good wash (for the car that is Cheesy)

well said LB  Wink

you want to put some back to black on your plastic trim and get her looking realy shiny , i use the turlt spray its about 1.99 from asda and dose a bloody good job . and a nice coat of auto glym on the body work makes a nice deep shine and really brings up the metallic paint .

I usually put an extra coat of wax on the rear arches to help keep away that nasty tin worm  Angry

Did you get your sill covers back on ?

If you really want to make your wheels look mean LB, why not keep the centres black and paint them silver round the rims. I may do that with my 2.6.

Interesting idea about the wheels Tetley, i'll keep that in mind Smiley

TBH i think i'll run her down the local hand car wash in the morning, cant be bothered to do it myself, especially now she's all muddy from some country driving Grin

Yes i have got all my trims back on now, arch trims stuck on with strong double sided tape, cheap from B&Qs, good stuff Smiley

Last time i got her valeted the bloke used some silicone spray on the trim, came up real nice, i didnt even realise the bottom trim on the rear bumper was black! Cheesy

You can get silicone dash spray and back to black in 330ml cans from your local pound shop.great for the dash and plastics inside the car but don't last a week on external trim parts.someone said use linseed oil on the outer trims.need to do mine.does look smart when its polished up and shiney.
silicone feeds the dash too and stops it splitting (older vauxhalls are prone to this due to the heat/sunlight.
