Nah the heated seats are standard on CDx saloons, like anything you could have without as a reduced cost option.

Ive been a busy bee today on the carlton, luckily the rain has held off til now Smiley

Started the day by making up new speaker pods out of mdf, my old speakers had blown and the new ones i got from the diamond wouldnt fit (different mounts) and looked a bit iffy so i dug some spare speakers out the loft.  Problem is they were too small to fit the original speaker pods hence my new creations Smiley

I marked out the new pods using the speaker covers i had, then i cut them out and drilled the three holes needed to mount them to my door, using the original holes, just needed longer screws Smiley

Then i fitted the speaker Cool

Had to mod the speaker connections because they fouled the door, but apart from that all is well Smiley

Next on the list, the grille, thought it was about time i painted it the same colour as the body

Its now a nice shade of westminster blue, didnt do too bad, only a couple of areas reacted a bit but you cant see them unless you pop the bonnet Wink

Hoping to do the GSi bumper aswell one day but i need to find somewhere that stocks the textered paint so i can make it look like the the side trims and rear bumper

Finally i added my new tinted side repeaters i got from ebay, makes the car look alot cleaner down the flanks

just need to get the magic sponge out now Cheesy

Very nice and a great transformation from when you bought it.

The senny wheels look great and the lowered front is good too.  Carltons do seem to have a lot of room between the front wheel and the arch which spoil the looks a bit.

Love the colour too, what is it?

AFAIK early CDX's didn't have heated seats, but on the later facelift ones they were standard.

Thought it was time for a well overdue update, not had alot to shout about, Car is pretty much part of the family now Smiley  Just been using her as intended, for work, play, towing cars, removals etc, all without a single moan or grumble, just put oil and water in now and then, pumped up tires, fill the tank etc.  Even sailed through the last mot with a few advisories (more on that later).  Still brings a smile to my face when i annoy those flashy rep mobiles on the motorway and beat the local chavs off the lights Grin

Well now shes getting a little raggy round the edges, engines still going strong (service coming up) but the bodywork, brakes adn suspension are getting tired through the abuse, so whiles the suns out she's gonna get a bit of tlc.  Mostly on the mechanical side because i want to keep it looking a little tatty, gives it a sleeper feel Wink

One of the advisories from the MOT was the suspension, i had lowered it a while back using those dodgy spring clamps you get, yeh i know i mustve been mad but i didnt want to throw expensive suspesion on back then.  Looked pimp but squashed springs combined with knackered shocks made for a real bumpy ride, like riding a bouncy castle lol Cheesy  So it was time for new suspension Cool

Out with the old and in with the new Smiley  Originally i had gone for a full suspension kit from Wietec, but just recently they have stopped making the suspension kits for the 6 cylinder carltons Sad  So in the end i bought spax springs (35mm), Bilstein front struts and Wietec rear shocks for the Omega estate

Fronts

When i first fitted these the car sat too high for my liking, even though side by side to the old springs (still clamped) they were slightly shorter, guess it must be just where they are uprated? so i got the grinder out and chopped a coil off em, sits much better now and still plenty of travel for the strut to work normally Grin  Also while i was under there i sprayed underseal over the seams and chassis rails, even in the strut mounting area as there didnt seem to be any paint under there Roll Eyes

Rears

Fitted easily? yeh wouldve done til the n/s side lower shock mounting bolt sheared Shocked  Took three hours to drill out the remains of the bolt, now has nuts and bolts fitted to each side.  I left the springs as they were as she sat reasonally low, plus im use her for towing trailers and carrying stuff so dont want the back too low, she looks good with the rear slightly high anyway Smiley

Also while i was there i replaced the worn out rear suspension donuts Smiley

and for the results Cool

looks nice eh?  might not notice from the pics but shes now running on lower profile tyres, 195/50s at the front and 205/60s on the rear, they were free ones i had lying around on other wheels, so worth the experiment, am probrably going to put 205/50s on the front and 225/50s on the rear in the future to see what she looks like, one things for sure i will never put standard size tyres on her again, just looks over tyre'd imo Grin

So how does she handle, very well, like shes on rails and defo launches off the line alot better, only downside i can see is the front tyres wear out really quickly on the inside, even though ive had the tracking redone Undecided but i only run part worns anyway so i can afford it Wink

Possible mod for the future? Cool

Its a strut brace from an old cavalier, perfect size, fits over the engine and yes the bonnet does shut properly Cheesy

Next ups gonna be a full service, with new plugs, leads,  dizzy cap etc, got a new K&N panel filter to fit and hopefully some new exhaust centre sections to make her run better Smiley

I fit 205/50's to my Carlie when she's on track. Makes for better acceleration out of the corners.

Time for an update on the barge, have decided that this year the old girl will get some much needed TLC and pimping, ive been happily rolling around enjoying the pikey image for a few years but recently the rust caught up with her and needed a boat load of hot metal to get her through the MOT Undecided  Since then ive been thinking maybe i sould give her a little loving, after all shes served me well, can find no reason for buying another car when this ones a good allrounder Smiley

This weekend i took her down my mates garage to get the ball rolling as i havent got the time to do it all myself, he'll be removing the tired old engine and box and replaceing it with a nice 3.0 goldtop from a senator which i aquired from Scatmancraig a while back Smiley

It has a nice fresh low mileage engine and box which will be a straight swap, plus with the engine loom and ECU fitted i'll be able to fit a unichip to squeeze some more power out of it Cool

While the engines out it'll give me a chance to get all the grot sorted out on the chassis rails, the strut tops are gonna get strengthened and i'll be fitting my strut brace, i shall also be replacing the slam panel as the old one is twisted from a previous accident and the lights have never fitted straight despite several attempts to rectify, it'll be easier to change the engine with it removed Cheesy

Ive been wanting to change the dashboard from the tatty grey one it has to the black diamond one i got when i bought the interior, as i need to get the ECU and loom out theres no time like the present to do it, plus ive got new switches courtesy of Flash to fit Grin

Out with the old, only had to remove a billion screws but wasnt too hard to do, just hope i can remember how it all goes back in as i wont be fitting the new one til the new loom is fitted Tongue

Lots more to come over the next few weeks, cant wait Cool

Went down to my mates garage today to see some progress Smiley

Engine and box now out Grin

Car looks a right mess at the moment with the engine out and the front panel off, even worse when i started picking holes in the chassis rails Cry

Had one of those 'should i carry on?' moments, still have a soft spot for the bloody thing so during the week my mate will be having a weldathon, chassis rails, turret tops, bulkhead and finally the strut brace, the front panel will wait til the new engine is in Wink

got this from Vauxhall Car Parts for £12, genuine GM panel, only problem is its for a 2 litre and the radiator mounting points are different as can be seen on the senator

Am just gonna make new mounting points up when its fitted Tongue

Couldnt let my mate do all the work so while i was there i removed the old engine loom

Not as bad as it looks but then maybe im an expert because this is the third car that i have done a complete engine and loom swap on, the hardest part was getting the ECU wiring plug out from the bulkhead, would only comeout a certain way and that involved removing the bonnet cable and a couple of ECUs from under the dash, while trying to hold back the sound insulation, its gonna be a pain in the @rse on the senny because the dash is still in Lips Sealed

More to come Grin
