Ragged the ar5e off the Carlton this afternoon!
I mean........ I err, I took it for a nice little drive this afternoon, and had to use a B road cos 35 on the A59 from Harrogate was a little tiresome.

Up till now, I would have avoided B roads as it didn't like them with the lowered dampers (unknown origin fitted from original Geezer doner car) and the cheapo PI springs (that got knackered as I knew they would) but now it's got what I believe to be standard Geezer front dampers and Spax springs (courtesy of Mr. J. Bennet Esquire), it's a different car.
To be fair, the old front suspension set up was supposed to be only temporary for the first year it was built, but managed to last for 5 years, so must grumble!
Still tramlines a little - probably down to daft sized wheels and tyres - but I took a long sweeping corner at a speed I really shouldn't have done (sign for 40mph max, I was almost doubled that, but too late to slow up) and halfway through thought I wasn't gonna make it but too late to brake (i.e brown trouser moment!!) and made my ar5e nip a little.
but it dug in, stood firm and pulled through completely unfussed.
I really don't think the MV6 - even with it's firmer Irmscher dampers and slightly stiffer springage - would have managed it as easily, and as it's up for sale, I don't want to to try!

Moral - the (almost) standard Geezer suspension set up is not too bad on B roads.
Have to say that I'm impressed.

Its a good feeling when your car performs sometimes, if its taken a corner at speed, pissed over a 40k car off the lights etc, its one of those moments you give the dashboard a stroke and say ''Good Girl'' had one of them moments the other day. Had to give myself a pat on the back to commiting to the monuver and realising i aint lost my balls yet  Cheesy Grin Cheesy

I've always said that the the standard GSi 24v suspension set up is the best available on a six cylinder Mk3 Carlton or Senator B Pete! Most aftermarket stuff on sale over the years (except Bilstein shocks with standard GSi 24v springs) never work as well IMHO. I'm glad to see that others are slowly agreeing with what I've been saying for well over a decade now.

Well I've never driven a standard GSi, so I can't really comment - all I can really summise from my experience is that the cheap shit springs are exactly that - cheap and erm, shit!
The previous dampers (as I said, unknown origin) would probably suit a track car better.

Glad there doing the Job Pete.

I fitted Bilstein's all round with std GSI springs on my 24v and they are excellent.

I've also fitted Bilstein to the diamond, also using the std spring.

Have to wait and to see how that performs.  Lots more work to do.

I do still have a set of used front KYB's with std GSI springs and rear used spax adjustables forsale if anyone is interested.

I've got to get some money in - The Diamond is costing me a fortune to build.
