Well ive known about this for a while and thought id fixed it... The speedo is a bit funky.. It sometimes sticks at about 15mph, then when i get up to about 40 / 45 it jumps up and works ok.... I disconnected it at the box and pushed the cable up toward the dash when i bought it and it clicked and after that worked fine till today... Now its going wierd again... Anyone know how to get the dials out? or more importantly what causes this problem? Cheers guys...

the end of the cable may have round off. the connections on each end is square. normally happens when the cable stiffens up. well this is how it works on my bikes. im sure someone can confirm or correct this.
so possible new cable only but maybe the clocks if the plug in bit is damaged.

Kinda thought/ hoping its the cable realy... any one know where to get one? also any tips on getting the dials out? My haynes manual has seen better days and that page (and a few others) has some pretty bad oil marks on

You will more than likely find the backing is peeling off the face of the speedo matey

oh , Well if you mean from the face side then its not peeling that badly... Just a tiny lil amount around the odometer, Dont think enough is protruding to touch the needle.

Dunno if I have pics but... One behind left hand switch blank/recirc switch below the clocc. One behind cig lighter trim One behind headlight switch One behind blank below headlamp aim adjuster Two above instruments. That'll see the surround trim out - it does fit with the steering wheel in place but takes a little patience.
Then there is one screw either side of the instrument cluster and one above. Once they are out the instruments can be move forward enough to unplug the cables behind it. Again it will come out past the wheel with a bit of juggling.
