My estate has rust in the usual spot where the ECU wiring passes through the bulkhead. What is the easiest way to repair this? From what I can see it looks like it'll be easiest to drill the spotwelds on the inner wing U section, then cut a bit of that out so I get access to weld up to rot. I can then reweld the section removed back in. Does that sound OK or are the inner wings ping in different directions when I cut part of it away.

Sonething like this ?

Your need two people - One to weld, the other to put the fires out.

Mine's nowhere near as bad as that, though I think it's in a different place to all those holes. If you look at the hole in the bulkhead where the ECU wiring grommet goes it is rotton around there. In the inner arch its right in the top corner where the drain channel exits.

Sounds like your need to remove the ECU wiring, Servo etc to get access.

Not that hard.  Pain having to bleed the brakes back out.

I think you need to cut out the rot and do a clean first.

The grommet round is ok, so that makes it easier.

I know the bit you mean... Mine had rot in the same place when I took the wings off... truth be told I didn't do a really thorough job on it. I just grinded the rot off then welded a plate onto on round the bottom of the hole then gobbed it up with plenty of underseal.

Yeah I could do that, was wanting to do it properly though whilst the car is so stripped. I reckon i'm gonna weld some box section across the inner wings then remove that panel I said. This should give me access to rot so I can sort it properly and rust proof it better.

rehashing this post, as i need something similer doing soon.

Mine is slightly different, being and ex-police Senny, the whole is passenger side, inside and parallel with the loom coming through the bulkhead, and the hole doesnt go through to the wheel well, but into the engine bay, guiding wire to the relay box and battery from whatever device the police had in the car, now all excess wire has been removed (Alot) iv just got this blooming great big hole in the bulkhead, not good when its raining, as the passenger footwell is soaking and has gathered a large puddle and having to keep soaking it up with towels when i drive in the rain... Undecided Undecided

Am attempting to start learning welding soon, as i think i need to when owning these sort of cars, but i may be looking for a welder in the south east area who would like to earn some beer tokens for just plating it over for now (inside and out)

cheers all

well heres some pictures of what i need:

LEADING TO THIS:

Havent got pics of it from the engine bay, but plenty of clearance/space to get to.
