WHO created me in his own image ?

« on: August 01, 2010, 04:08:09 PM »

Isn't it odd that since the Police and local authorities were no longer allowed to pocket all the money raised from them, it has been decided to start turning them off because "it has been discovered that they have no effect on the accident rate".

Funny that !! we have been told for years that the justification for them was that they radically reduced the accident rate Roll Eyes

There's one near me that someone incinerated a few weeks ago; it hasn't been replaced !

It was put there after one of two boys who regularly played football across the main road was killed !!

Best thing to do is stick some of that 1 way mirrored glass mirror side in onto the lense opening.

Or even better, cling film over the number plate, so when a picture is taken, it just comes up white. ha ha

Problem with that is the old bill can do you for trying to pervert the cause of justice which is more serious than the speeding offence... no winning this one... Undecided

That trick doesn't work Jimmy. They've covered excatly that and many others too on "Mythbusters" on the Discovery channel and none of these types of stealth solutions prevented the camera from taking readable pictures of the vehicles numberplate.... Sad Sad Sad

Best one I heard for the mobile cameras is to get a transmitter for automatic gates/garage doors and fit it behind the number plate, apparentley it messes up the laser sight of the gun and you just get an error message.

It was in the papers a while back where this guy did just that and got away with it for ages, the only reason they found out was because he kept going past speed camera vans and cops giving them the finger so they pulled him and found the device fitted to his numberplate.

Think he got done for perverting the course of justice or somthing like that, but not for speeding

The law states that the number plate must be readable by ANPR camera (as well as being of the prescribed font and size, reflectance etc), any deviation (show plates, etc) is illegal and renders you liable to prosecution.

Black tape to alter the characters is classed as 'Going equipped to steal (Bilking) and 'Attempting to pervert the course of justice'.

Any film, spray or other device designed to affect the readability of the plate is classed as 'Attempting to pervert the course of justice'.

All of which are criminal offences as opposed to motoring ones like speeding.

Whichever way you look at it the bar stewards have you, and if they don't... they simply change the law to make sure they still have their hands firmly on your nuts...

You can never win...

Have two legal driving licences from two different countries.

That normally does the trick.

Or just keep your eyes out for the 2 foot square bright yellow box on a stick and slow down when you come up to them.

Definitely - Unfortunately this does not work with Mobile units, which tends to be my comeuppance.

What I do know is that fancy plates (show plates) with italic or odd fonts don't get picked up on ANPR - seems it gets confused and if they have a misread then they cannot use it (legally).
ANPR cameras are used for Congestion Charging and Low Emission Zone charging.

Siemens however, have just developed their own camera that does ANPR for congestion charging and average speed with the capability to check the speed of two vehicles passing at either the same time or at different times in opposite directions - it is the only camera capable of doing this at the moment.
It's accuracy rate is something like 97% in all weather and lighting conditions, it will also cover the same road width as 4 conventional cameras (In other words 4 lanes, that is either 4 in one direction or a dual carriageway), it will also read from the front or back so if they want to use it for average speed then they will only need one camera at specified intervals facing in one direction only and it will capture virtually every vehicle.

Current average speed cameras are 'Spec 3s'. ANPR that is used for Congestion and in many car parks are made by PIPs cameras in Poole (build quality is not bad but could be better).
Siemens camera is currently undergoing trials in Whitechapel (build quality and accuracy to be envied by other manufacturers) - not being used for enforcement yet.

It isn't getting any better folks...

p.s. Hairspray does not confuse ANPR...

i would even say its criminal spending that kind of money when the country is in the state its in!

Probably not far off Chris, congestion cameras are £5k a piece  Shocked and if you think the average pole has 4 cameras (including low emission zones), there are something like 323 sites on congestion charging and 77 on low emission - at between £10 and £20 grand a pole depending on number of cameras at 2 poles per street (on average), about £800 for the pole itself (not counting between £2 and £4k installation charges add to that the cost of the controller cabinet and all the kit inside plus the initial cost of setting up the Datacenter to process the data) - that IS a lot of money!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

One site in Hyde Park has 13 cameras on one pole!!! 13 x £5000 - you do the maths... Shocked
