Right i'm slowly trying to sort out the poor mpg of my car. Started averaging 21mpg, now with the blocked cat removed and exhaust sorted its doing high 20s/low 30s. However the diff has no oil it it and whines like a biatch so reckon the extra resistance might be costing me a few mpg.

Does anybody have a spare diff thats a known non whiner?

mine whines, sounds like an aeroplane taking off sometimes, but im still averaging high 20's, from other ppls posts and knowledge, its a very rare thing for a diff to pack up dispite these whines, but spose its always peace of mind. and ive senn them on the bay and on ere going for £20 sometimes, good luck mate Wink

but perhaps try topping the diff up with oil and see how the whine drops and the mpg rises 1st Smiley

The front seal has gone on mine so if you put oil in it just falls out.

Where abouts are you? I'm just about to get a 2.0 back to Lincoln for breaking. Don't know what the diff's like though.

Car's for breaking. Diff available of you want it. Not had it at any speed as it's cutting out, but quiet up to 40mph. Can come and see it (well, hear it at least) in car if you want.

Just north of Lincoln.
