All sorts of unnecessary complications, the engine map stored in the ECU would be all wrong.

It's a bit like transplanting a tigers brain into a kitten; it would get ideas way beyond its capacity to perform and get awfully confused Tongue

I don't think you could, without swapping a lot of wiring and plugs including the big one that fits to the ECU, as I'm pretty sure they're completely different.

Why on earth would you want to?

There is also (amongst a few others) the 'minor' matter of persuading the ECU that the ignition now only needs to fire 4 cylinders Wink

You know....It would work brilliantly Jimmy and you'd get a shit-load of increased performance whilst improving the power too just as long as you fitted the matching 2.6i/3.0i - 12v or 3.0i - 24v engine and transmission into your 2.0i Carlton GL shell matey.... Grin Grin Grin

You have now posted question after question asking how to improve your K-platers performance, So either save up and fit a C20LET Cavvy/Calibra Turbo motor to your GLi or buy yourself a 2.6i Diplomat, 12v GSi 3000 or 24v GSi 3000 and be happy for a short while Jimmy.

If neither of these solutions above are tempting enough, save up and buy a Lotus!

Those of us with 2 ltrs are alway looking for ways to improve performance, God knows how many questions I have asked on this subject and I will probably ask a lot more as new ideas pop into my head, I must admit the ECU question did occur to me some time ago but I was wondering if the SE engine had a differently mapped ECU to the NE, probably not but then until somebody tells me that I won't know.

The beauty of forums like this is that we can ask as many questions as we like and hopefully one day somebody will come back with the answer we are looking for.

As for buying a more powerful car/engine, not always within the budget for some of us so we have to get the best out of what we have, in my case it is not only budget but a deep sense of happiness with the rest of my car - would just like a bit more oomph that's all... Wink

The 2 litre isn't for going fast it's more of a cruiser, not unless you spend serious ££££££££s, makes more sense to drop a bigger engine in, if not a six pot how about a 2 litre ecowreck from a Omega?  A reasonable upgrade for pennies if you buy a scrapper.

a lot of work for 11 bhp imho  and whilst you can get reasonable power from the eco it isnt cheap to do so

Thought the ecowreck was 130-135bhp? Probrably cost less to get a scrapper 2 litre omega and fit the engine rather than mod the 8valve plus you'll still have good fuel consumption coupled with a modern reliable engine.

That said the six pot transplant is the better option, but it's just an idea

It's mapped diffrent, Se has higher compression ,NE ECU has extra gubbins for the oxygen lambda sensor.

as people have said, the 4 pot will never be a rocket ship.

I bought a 2.0 H reg carlton for spare parts off someone a few years ago. He said the ECU had a superchip in it from Sweden - not sure how "super" it was, or whether he was b/s'ing me but I still have the ECU here in my spare parts pile - never opened it up tho and never fitted it to my cars I all my ECUs work currently on my cars...

Maybe its time I opened it up - you've got me now - I'm curious...

Did it look like it had been previously opened?

Another way to find out is to book a couple of power runs at your local rolling road and swap the ecu

Not going to Billing but I can post it to you if you wanna play for PnP cost Smiley

I have 1 or 2 others spare for my motor - the newer larger Bosch ones with black labels - so no worries for me for spares for the time being.
