its a 20SE engine,

Ok Jimmy, you have the 20SE 2.0i 8v engine instead....

im looking for a ECU mod and air filter, Wink

Why bother with the ECU & filter.....bin your current 20SE engine and fit a Cavalier/Calibra Turbo C20LET instead!!! Grin Grin Grin

This way you'll have GSi 24v matching performance but with standard Carlton exterior looks. Talk about a perfect "Q" car Jimmy! Wink

That's fair enough Jimmy!

If your numbers happen to come up on the Lottery anytime soon mate, I hope you'll keep this C20LET conversion in mind before blowing your winnings on any Lamborghini's or Ferrari's.... Tongue Tongue Tongue

if my numbers come up on the lottery, i wont bother with that idea, ill just go look for a good nik LC methinks, dont you???

sorry it aint a 20SE, its a C20NE  Undecided but still qwwiik,(4 wat it is) drove Murphs 20SE dippy the other day and there wernt much difference at all, just a lil more punch. what put me off was : it has SE looks, such as the Cam cover is SE etc.
So with limited funds for the time being, im just looking for tune ups that may just bump it up a lil bit for a lil price, which is why i was concentrating on a Air filter/induction kit, ECU remap(tho i know it aint that cheap) exhaust(straight through)(possible de-cat) good plugs, injectors, blaa blaa, you know wat i mean U.D ?

Spark plugs won't make much difference unless your old ones are manky, I use ngk, get them from your motor factor not halfrauds as they're cheaper

get yourself on eBay for the air filter, your afm is the same as the astra cavalier calibra so should be plenty of cheap kits on there (I have a nearly new pipercross filter at home somewhere if you want it)

same for the exhaust, get a cheap back box off eBay (dosent matter what car it's for) and take it up to Maidstone Exhaust centre in Bower lane, they'll weld it on for beer tokens (they do custom jobs too)

Errr, Not wanting to rake up any old bad feelings with Lotus owners here.... but No Jimmy, I wouldn't be looking for an LC or an LO if my Lottery numbers came up.

Ten years ago I would have been just like you but my own personal infatuation with this type of Supercar has since deminished mate. I still like them but I wouldn't want to own one. Working on and driving other peoples Lotus's has put me right off them unfortunately! Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

If I won big on the Lottery, I'd be having an extended Holiday over in Germany with my Carlton GSi....

making sure that the ATS/Irmscher livery was not the only thing I replicated!!! Cool Cool Cool

You have to remember that reliable Evo 500 race engines grew to 3780cc's in capacity that produced 440PS @ 8000rpm. That would be more than enough power for me!

I would bin the interior next and go for a full cage also....

but I'm not sure if I'd go down the wide arch Evo 500 route. If I did then at least I could sort of keep my cars current livery....

and when all that was done I'd come back to Blighty to buy one of these....

and one of these Supercars too....

just to keep my GSi 24v DTM Rep company! Grin Grin Grin

been thinking about that one alot recently, wether to sell, do it up, its a garage at the moment, 4 16' alloys with tyres in the boot, all my tools, work clothes, shite load of spare speakers etc etc, the arse is dragging on the ground, but thinking about keeping it standard for now, even the steely wheels  with caps and even the trim, mainly a use of work transport, getting to and from.
Any bling/chaving up i do, will be on the Senny, those alloys when i get some money for tyres, exhaust system, panel/cone filter etc etc and in the convo of this thread, some shit hot plugs. no need for suspension mods as its uprated anyway by the old bill, quite stiff indeed Wink

but will think about the carltons future U.D, but just want a back box for the Senny right now, and think i might be getting one off a 24v GSi on Sat (not standard Wink )

will let you know Smiley

Maybe not Jimmy but 380bhp+ is not that difficult or that expensive to get out of one of these C20LET engines when you compare it to a similar bhp'd six cylinder engines cost. I saw that for myself when my mate Steve built his old Omega B Turbo! Cool Cool Cool

A Lotus Carlton or Lotus Omega can be hard work to drive at normal speeds in regular traffic. A Lotus is nothing like as smooth as a standard Carlton is when you drive one about town. On the other hand, the Omega B Turbo I experienced was civilised and drove exactly like a production model. A very quick production model!!! Grin

I've since toyed with the idea for quite a while now to replace my GSi's 24v lump with a lighter stroked version of an LET engine to give my car mega horse power. The only thing that has really stopped me is lack of spare cash and the fear that I'll no longer like my GSi in the same way I currently do afterwards.... Undecided Undecided Undecided

Yup! Grin There is a chap over in Bristol I know of who has got a silver Calibra 4x4 Turbo. It looks completely stock to the untrained eye but the car has been on many Rolling Road Days pushing out 488bhp+ figures on different Rolling Roads! Wink

Its owner is quite wealthy and also owns a Ferrari F430 as another toy but he claims he keeps the humble Vauxhall as part of his fleet because with its current power.....the Calibra really scares him when you floor the loud pedal!!! Cool Cool Cool
