i dont mind matey.

heres the rest of the thread

thats right i finally got to go see the beast this afternoon

my mate came round about 1ish we juiced up the mondeo and off we went into deapest darkest leicestershire to find the farm.

we arrived there but my mates dad who owns the carlton could not be there due to illness and he couldnt find the keys so today was just a viewing of the car as we could not get in it unfortunatly

upon entering the land we were graced with the smell of cow sh*t and a muddy walk along some pikey made track to the longest barn i have ever seen in my life, all around the land were broken cars, vans etc

the barn was all locked up so it was back up the muddy track to the farm house to get the keys so we could enter

upon entering i was greeted with many cars that lay dormant awaiting rescue,3 isuzu piazza turbo's, 4 rover v8 vander-pla's,a lotus esprit,a lotus kit car,a ford sierra xr4i,bmw 325i coupe and many more-basically its a retro car heaven and among them all was the carlton gsi3000 sticking out between the lotus kit car and a morris of some sort

i was amazed at the condition of the carlton,my mate said it was clean but for 22 years old its nearly 100% mint. my mates dad cherished it having all new sills, arches done before parking it up and having the bumpers resprayed. we wiped 5 years of dust from the window to gaze inside and the half leather red piped seats look they have never been sat in. the wheels are mint with only very minor marks and good tires all round that amazingly werent flat

walking around the body there was just 3 or 4 little niggles

1-side skirts could benefit from a respray but certainly not bad
2-some very small surface rust on the bottom of the rear arch (hardly anything really)
3-back bumper could probably need re-fitting as it doesnt quite sit flush one side but its only out by a gnats nacker
4-some of the black plastic trim around the car would benefit a spray of black paint and re-fitting

thats all really, obviously its very dark and dusty in there so wont be able to tell proper condition untill we get her out side but considering she is 22 and covered 169000 miles i think she looks mint. i reckon a big bruiser of a car like this would suit me down to the ground. i am going over next weekend with a gallon of fuel,a new battery and the keys (hopefully) and see about getting it started.

i know in recent threads ive stated im not having another vauxhall and that im going jap power but after seeing this i dont think i can turn my back on vauxhall.dont get me wrong this will never sound/go like a scooby/200sx etc but i think....no wait i KNOW this will turn more heads at car shows and put a massive smile on my face...........it sounds silly but cars like this have so much character about them. it was a shame to see all these cars just parked up most of them were in very good condition the isuzu piaza turbos's were lovely-think you have to be a big retro head to appreciate these sorts of cars, if the government had their way they would have all these scrapped

once its been for its mot i will be making the decision about if im having it or not......but i think its my duty to put this beast back on the road

it comes with loads of spares,2 sets of wheels, engine spares, panels, glass etc etc etc and its only done a few hundred miles since last mot. its also had new flywheel, clutch, timing chain, air flow meter before it got stored up.
i wonder just how many old cars are waiting a second chance in life stored up in barns over the country....sad when you think about it and you appreciate cars how they used to be

anyway enough of me blabbing on....pictures speak louder than words..............enjoy
p.s sorry about picture quality....camera phone,dust,dark + fat club hands=not good Smiley
