Got bored waiting for my helper springs to turn up so I cut 2.5 coils off the front and boshed the wheels on.

The rear wheels clear suprisingly i've taken the springs off and dropped it right down. Will need camber ajusters to straighten them up a bit though.

I want some sill covers and a new rear bumper but not seen any for sale.

Oh and with the coilovers wound fully down I can sit the front bumper on the floor lol. I've already forgot and driven into the doorstep, hence the big scrape in the front bumper.

Hey I know that car park!

Good one, they do look a lot better when the front is lowered.

I didn't realise you were painting it too. Looking good though!

What about the 2.5 TD conversion?

Ah well bit of a shame I was really looking forward to seeing what was involved.

If compatibility and cost were no option I would have the 2l Diesel out of the newish 3 Series. 175 php 250 lbs/ft and 57mpg!! Shocked

Got the paint done. Roof needs buffing now will do it when I can be bothered. Next jobs are more slammage (front down so arch is half way covering tyre, rear down 3-4" or whatever looks right), chop the spare wheel well out and make a fuel tank thats higher up so I can put a big oval exhaust out of the middle of the bumper and fit my 8.5" wheels on the back.

Yeah intake into the air filter. Only place it'd go without faffing about getting new intake hoses. Still need to modify it a bit, i'm gonna chop the lip down so it sits more flush then paint it black.

It's having a LSD fitted when I put the new engine in. I took the indicator lenses off, sprayed the insides satin black then wiped them over with some thinners on a rag so it still see through. Will be doing the headlights properly with tint spray when I get paid.

Dropped the back down a bit by cutting the springs. Had to do a bit of fab work to do it because of the pig tails. I found some old spring cups in the scrap pile (off E30 325i front struts I think) which were nearly the right size. A bit of hammering later and they were the right size. I then cut the bottom off the springs and ground the end flat. By unbolting the rear shocker, I could then put the spring in the cup on top of the trailing arm, then jack the hub up till the spring was located at the top. I then put the spring cup at the right angle, hit it with the melty stick and welded a couple of strengtheners in.

Results

77

The stance is fail at the front as i'm waiting on some 205/40s so I can drop it down. It's not arse dragging there's still 1/2" of rake to the front it just looks arse heavy.

Yes, it sits nice and looks cool - but from what you say you've done to the suspension, I would venture the statement of 'bloody dangerous'.

Why's that? Dangerous would be cutting the springs and providing no location at the bottom. As it stands the spring stays where it should do and doesn't drop out when the cars jacked up. I don't get why people are against cutting springs its not like they grow on trees they have to be cut at some point.

I like that a lot Cool, i only just noticed youve de-railed the top too, very sleek and mean.

I think i'm going to have to pinch that spring cup idea for the back of mine, are they standard springs youve used? how many coils came off?

WTF? So, some bloke with an angle grinder can do a much better job than a car manufacturer who's spent millions of pounds developing a vehicle....Is that what you are saying Stealthstylz?? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

If you seriously looked into just how much hard R&D work that goes into developing your cars suspension springs and then also look at how they are manufactured by either a cold formed or hot formed process, you would ultimately realise Stealthstylz just how much you completely alter the suspension springs characteristics when you chop them. Also try to think about how much you are now overworking your cars shock absorbers thanks to your lower'd ride height.

The bottom line is that chopped springs and overworked shocks will not react in the same way as OE unmolested items will at the limit and this makes them unpredictable and deamed unsafe by the organisations who look after our safety like British Standards or VOSA. Can you honestly say exactly how your car will react in an emergency situation? Every manuafacturer had to do this before they were allowed to sell cars to the public...

But, its your car so its your rules!

I do hope that you don't get caught up in any type of accident while your car has these chopped suspension springs Stealthstylz because if you do I'm sure you'll end up deep in the sticky brown stuff coz this kind of modification is just the excuse that any insurance company needs do declare their cover null and void.
