I'm still in two minds about this due to the hazardous nature of the materials. Obviously I won't have filters on my booth so, although I may be safe with a decent mask, there are neighbours and pets to think of etc...
I'm hoping I can use a non toxic paint, need to check availability though but that doesn't help with the priming or the lacquer. I can get 5L of aerosol lacquer for £35, probably less, but that might not be enough as it doesn't go as far and I would imagine the 2K is much better.
Pedro, what sort of carry on did you have when you painted the car you did?

I had a nice warm spray booth where we painted race and rally cars!
I've been told that 2K paint is now completely illegal to sell or use in any shape or form, and that ignorance is no excuse. Apparently, all you can get now it acrylic paint, and it's harder to colour-match to original 2K paint - but if you're doing the whole car, that's not an issue.

Ok so the paint it illegal. What about the lacquer and primer?
I will go for a acrylic paint then.
I see there are some non toxic primers around but I'd need to find a bit more about it. If not the cost of using aerosols would not be much different to tins with the gun.

I think what goes for the paint wil also go for the lacquer and primer.

I think what goes for the paint wil also go for the lacquer and primer. yep, that makes sense. Is there any need to use 2K primer? I've been looking round on the web for something else that you can just add thinners to. Will be getting a tin of Zinc 182 for the rusty bits which I think you just add thinners to. Paint should be ok when I can find some acrylic. Been looking around for AMEC Pete. Can't see them anywhere on the web have you got a link of phone number for them? Lacquer is still a problem, unless I use can's which is will not be good.

My mistake - I meant AEMC, but can't find them! I remember APC from when I lived in Norfolk, as they're in Norwich http://carcolourcentre.co.uk/default.aspx

Hmm...Just spoke to the lady at the carcolourcentre and she contradicted quite a lot of stuff that I've learned. 1. As I am going for a solid black apparently I don't need lacquer. 2. 2 Pack paint isn't illegal. Eh...

You don't need laqcuer for any paint finish really, it's only kind of a hard 'skin' to protect the softer pearl or metallic paint. I don't think I'd bother with lacquer on a solid colour either - saves alot of hassle and some cash! I was only told that 2K paint was illegal (when I took my bumper in a few weeks ago), but if you can still buy it, then I guess it's still legal

Well as long as I can get a good shiny finish to the paint.
Since it's in York I was thinking of calling round to yours for a chat about a few things before I start the preparation... I can't come tomorrow as they are shut but are you free any evenings this week Pedro?

Oh that's a bummer, I'm a bit tied up on wednesday too. Just wanted to pick your brains regarding what to do with the chrome bits on my bumpers.

Yeah well I wouldn't mind keeping it on the Bumpers but there is the problem of what to do about the holes where the headlamp wipers used to be.

Maybe I should fit a different bumper... The guy in Skipton will have one but there is the cost as I'm already getting 2 new doors... Hmmm...
Anyway I acquired a DA sander today, some more sheeting and a few other bits and bobs so were well on the way to getting all the materials sorted.

Yeah, that's a good idea though I would have no idea how the Germans refer to that bit but this car below that I have already had the cubby hole from looks like it might be a club, hopefully you will be able to see from this link. Just messaged him and he seems to think it doesn't have wipers on the lights. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290328296638&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123Edit: I just zoomed in and it looks like it doesn't have them. Hopefully the chrome bit will be in ok shape though.
