Interesting to know the intricacies of the toxicity of the materials. It made me a bit wheezy so I just avoided it a bit more. Apparently the 2K can cause industrial Asthma and is very irritating to the skin and eyes.
It can cause asthma, but more importantly can kill you, believe it or not the second time you use it, as Diplomat2.6 said its due to hypersensitivity, but for some people who suffer, the first time you use it your body isnt happy and builds up the hypersensitivity then the second time you use it you are now hypersensitive and you may have a terrible life threatening reaction. Thats what I read anyway so if you had a mild reaction the first time for gods sake be careful in future. Keep it completely off your skin and dont breathe any in at all. The official line is use an air fed mask, I use a face mask that filters particles and organic compounds and dont seem to suffer but thats hardly evidence that its safe. I also leave the area the moment that I put the spray gun down and dont return until the next coat is going on or id it was the last coat until the air is completely clear. The reason for keeping it off your skin isnt to prevent skin irritation its because the harmful stuff can get into your body that way and start the reaction to it. Keep up the good work but take care.

Thanks for the H&S advice Chris. I am generally very careful with it and make sure I have the mask well fitted without too much of a beard to stop it sealing.
By the way, in strong sunlight I can see a lot of marks from the mop. Will that come out with polishing or should I mop again with a finer compound/head?
Fitting the spoiler tomorrow. Any tricks for getting the holes in the right place? My current thoughts are to put masking tape on the boot, put the screws in the spoiler, offer it up and then draw round where the screws sit on the tape.

Do you have a GSi as well? I once saw a red one in Oulton and I know there is a Silver GSi in Calverly too. Also there is a guy who has had a white GL laid up on his drive for years near The Maston. Good to have a TC member round the corner from me. Give me a shout if you need anything ever.

Just wondering if I could use an airbrush to do the touch ups where I've gone through the paint. It would save a lot of mess, masking and rubbing down.

About right if there's no holes in the bootlid (on the underside - there might be a telltale sign). After drilling, make sure you paint the bare metal - more than primer, cos primer is porous.

Yup, and it'll probably be easier to blend in too!

Right I'll get one of those.
Just fitted the trim today on one side. Looks ok but does need some of your special stuff to fill the gaps in. I think I got it on straight by having someone hold a piece of string tight along the body.
While concentrating on getting it straight I didn't pay enough attention to the horizontal alignment so the rear trim catches the front door when you open it. No bother though as I can just rub a bit off the trim and paint it again.

In a week or two, pop round and we'll sort them out chap. Got a bit on next weekend - road trip with DiploMatt to pick up (hopefully) my new daily driver and summat following weekend I think - but evenings (after this coming week) might be an idea if you're wanting it done PDQ?

Got the airbrush out today, should have gotten around to it sooner as the weather was bad but I got most of it done. It did rain soon after but I think it had chance to dry. My £2.50 airbrush worked ok too, didn't need to do any masking.
So a very good clean then I can post some pics.

Are you going to post some pictures of the finished job? I am looking forward to seeing how it turned out, as I'm sure others are.

Yes I am as soon as I can paint the fronts of the rear door trims. I stuck them on a bit too far forward and it scuffs the paint off them when you open the rear door. So I need it to warm up a little bit before I can paint them. Shouldn't be long now though. Here's one before I've put the trim on.

Cheers mate. Yes I'm pretty happy with it but there's still a bit to do, like all the dull bits round the rear window that need more flatting but I'll get there in the end.

Well it only took me another 12 months but I have done the last bits of touching up ish...
The problem I had was that with painting the door trims. I had positioned the rear ones too far forward so when you opened the rear doors it shaved off the paint. Well after having got myself a half decent airbrush I have now painted these and the rest of the parts where the primer was peeping through. so pics to follow very soon!

Well I took a few pics though my camera is a bit lame and the car still needs a bit of tickling up here and there... Getting the compound off the plastics and getting some boiled linseed oil for the skirts. Anyway here's some pics of the car through various stages of the job... ^ Primer on the new doors of the police senny ^ Just starting the preparation ^ New doors on Bumpers painted Almost done here... I would have taken more pics of the priming stage and inside the booth but I was that stressed about the job that photos went by the wayside. From the other day where it's almost done. It looks a bit odd where the chrome on the rear meets the painted arch trim. I did try to retain the chrome on the door trim but the masking and removal of it after is very difficult. Especially seeing as you have quite a bit of paint on there with the plastic primer, 2k primer and then the 2k topcoat.
